William Curran [Billy] was born on 11th February 1933 in the city of Liverpool, and as a young boy he had to live through the horrors of the blitz.

Billy was the third son of  John [commonly know as Jack] and Marjorie Curran, and had 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Ronnie, Donald, Tony,  Jimmy, Molly and Noreen.

A  natural choice for a young lad from Liverpool was to join the Merchant Navy after the Second World War. Billy spent 4 years at sea travelling the world, before joining the Royal Air Force in 1952.

This website is an account of those 4 years in the Merchant Navy, and the different ships he sailed and worked on.

Also on this website is the account of Billy’s father [John/Jack Curran] who was in the Merchant Navy for many years, and witnessed Hitler’s campaign to destroy Britain’s live line, by sinking as many merchant ships as possible carrying vital supplies. Jack Curran’s ships were unfortunately sank 3 time by Hitlers U-Boats.
